ORIGINAL EDITION
"Would you like to court me to Happyland?" Prince Gobbledygook asks Lily Marshmallow and himself. Therein the journey begins to find Happyland. Follow him as he tries to define happiness with a little help from his friends, Big Wig Sophisticated Pig, Brutus Beaujolais and Cornelius Wordbook, an English gentleman with a book-for-a-head. Prince Gobbledygook duels, loses his ladylove, regains his original name and gains a friendship that will last for fourforevers. Will Lily Marshmallow and him make it to Happyland?
This is the original version of Happyland, geared toward adults who enjoy literary fairy tales. Everything started here. I realized the story wasn’t suitable for children. I was having a lot of fun with wordplay, and this was my first chance to show it—to flex my literary skills.
I have a sentimental attachment to Happyland. It was my first creation. I was in a bad place when I wrote it, and it helped me process some dark times. My goal is to one day publish all editions in a single book. Maybe someone will read the children’s edition when they’re young, then return to this version when they’re grown. I can only hope.
